“It’ not STRESS that kills us, it is our reaction to it.”  Dr Hans Selye

There is only one DIS-EASE….and that is STRESS!!!  Stress is a specific diagnosis and comes in three forms: 1) mechanical/structural  2) chemical/nutritional and 3) emotional.  Since the biochemistry of the body is FORCED (meaning it can only react in a specific physiological manner), when any of the above stressors are more than the body is capable of handling, then homeostasis (the internal maintenance of equilibrium managed by the hypothalamus which includes temperature, pH, fluid volume and dissolved solutes) is affected.  The degree to which homeostasis is disturbed, depends on the potency of the stressor, the current structural, nutritional and emotional health of the body, its ability to break down and deliver necessary nutrients, it’s ability to eliminate wastes, and the consistency and length of time the stressor lasts.  This is why you CANNOT separate function (visceral) from structure (somatic) in the physiology of the body.  As far back as 1898, noted physiologist Henry Head, discovered that when there is visceral dysfunction (inability to meet the demands of the hypothalamus to maintain homeostasis) there will always be muscle contraction in those tissues sharing the same spinal innervation as the organ involved.  Re-confirmed in 1917 by MacKenzie and in 1946 by Sherington, this recognition that muscle contraction and its resulting structural misalignments ALWAYS accompanies stress, has been established beyond doubt.  Therefore, palpation can be used as a tool to identify stressed organs and tissues, is scientifically sound and based on accepted neurology, physiology, and biochemistry.  Because nutritional stress and enzyme deficiencies produce shifts in the bodies ability to maintain homeostasis, muscle contraction at the site of stressed organs and tissues will occur.  It is Dr. Loomis’ system of Viscero-Somatic Stress Management ™ that incorporates this system of identifying specific stress points and structural misalignments due to muscle contraction that results in an incredibly accurate diagnosis of the cause of the patient’s symptoms.  And the reason the program is so effective in returning the body to a normal state of homeostasis and balanced functioning, is because it can find, identify and resolve the major stressors of the body. This is done through a series of scientifically and medically based exams that look at your individual structure and function.  These provide information in the form of what is required by your individual body in order to heal itself.  The program’s testing can do this at a clinical level, even when an MD has diagnosed a specific disease state.  However, results at this level will depend on how much damage the body has suffered.  More importantly, it can do this at a sub-clinical level before any damage has been done and before any current available medical testing can diagnose the stress that is causing the symptoms.  Even before you have symptoms, it can identify what systems are being stressed and the needed components to prevent symptoms from occurring.  Nothing else out there in either the medical or alternative field can do this!!!  And this is why I have chosen it as the foundation for my holistic practice.

Dr. Hans Selye, who spent 50 years of his life doing research on the effects of stress in the body and won a Nobel Prize in medicine for his work, defines stress as the non-specific response of the body to any demands made upon it.  This means that the body ALWAYS reacts in the same way to any type of stress, if the stressor is not removed quickly.  It goes through the following three stages: ALARM, ADAPTATION, and finally EXHAUSTION.  When it reaches the last stage, it then is followed by adrenal exhaustion and the breakdown of the mucousal lining of the gastro-intestinal tract between the mouth and the rectum.   For most people, the stomach and the intestinal tract are the prime target areas.   With the constant daily stress that the majority of Americans live with, this has obviously lead to major digestive issues, which are now the #1 health challenge in America.  Billions of dollars are spent each year on drugs and over the counter medications trying to address this, but they only cover up symptoms, create side effects, and can’t return the person back to a state of normal homeostasis.  Most of us don’t know that just because you ingest something, does not mean you digest it (including medications).  Digestion is a very complex process that involves, not only the breakdown of food, but  the absorption and utilization of nutrients, and the elimination of wastes, as well.  A breakdown in any one of these digestive processes will result in the development of stress in one or more organ systems, structural problems, eventual symptoms, and finally DIS-EASE if the deficit is NOT corrected.

The lack of enzymes is a foundational stressor to the body and it’s digestive processes.  Enzymes ARE the life of the body and are responsible for every chemical process that occurs, eg. breathing, thinking, walking, feeling, emotions, movement, seeing, blinking…..you get the idea!  Because heat above 118 degrees kills enzymes, if you have been eating a cooked diet for most of your life and are over 40, you can be pretty sure you are enzyme deficient to some extent.  If you are not yet experiencing any digestive symptoms or other health issues, then this is the best time to utilize the program as the body hasn’t reached the stage of EXHAUSTION yet and there is less to repair.  Did you know that almost all chronic degenerative  health issues are a result of enzyme deficiency?   This is why the Visero-Somatic Stress Management program is so foundational and imperative to maintaining good health and longevity!  Although there are many good therapies out there to chose from, but if you are stressed beyond your body’s physiological capabilities, your body  will only partially benefit from them.  And if you are enzyme deficient and putting supplements into a body that is struggling to break them down, you are just stressing your body further.  Individual factors such as diet choices, age, genetics, life style, toxicity, environment and current level of health will all play a role in the body’s management of stress.  But rest assured, despite having the best advantages in each of these categories, if you are enzyme deficient, structurally, nutritionally or emotionally stressed, and digestion is compromised in any way, you WILL develop symptoms and eventual disease.  Remember, the biochemistry of the body is forced, and there is no question of it’s response.

It’s also important to know that all enzyme formulations are NOT created equal.   Many companies put enzymes like bromelain and papain in their formulations, not knowing that the peak activity of these do not work in the pH or temperature of the human stomach; and pancreatin only provides enzymatic activity in the duodenum…it does nothing to predigest food in the stomach, where it’s needed most.  And contrary to popular belief, betaine HCL does not provide you with more stomach acid.  It does help some with protein metabolism in the liver, but in the end causes a deficiency in the bicarbonate system that is necessary for correct alkalinity of the pancreatic juices.  Nor are most enzymes field tested for efficacy and proficiency, as are ALL of Dr. Loomis’ enzymes.   So please take time to read about them and all the other important things you should know in the page on Digestive Health and Visero-Somatic Stress Management.  It could save your life and change your health!!!
